ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN YOUTH OPERA INC
Sophie Serese founded the Australian Youth Opera to give performance opportunities to young singers, instrumentalists, dancers, composers, and production crew, in major Australian venues, regionally, and in the Melbourne Metropolitan area. Jenny Macklin, MHR, Federal Deputy Leader of the Opposition, launched the Australian Youth Opera on the 25th June, 2005. We aim to access private and corporate financial on-going sponsorship or patronage which will enable the Australian Youth Opera to thrive. We have a unique product both nationally and internationally with the young opera/composer librettist, Sophie Serese, combined with the talent, dedication and the commitment of the young performers. The interim board consists of Sophie Serese, Julia Nafisi, M.A. (equiv. Vienna) and Lecturer in Voice at Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music, Robyn Kemp, B.A. T.I.T.C., T.T.C., G.D.S.E., Rebecca Parfitt, VCA final year student, and Amy Skipper, a Swinburne Graduate in costume design. The Australian Youth Opera is being auspiced and assisted by the Australian Business Arts Foundation.
